Care Philosophy

Basic science research was my first passion, but I found that I needed more direct human interaction than it could offer. My career in medicine has been deeply satisfying as it combines my love of scientific reasoning with my need for human connection and community. I love the process of learning about each patient, their family, and their specific health needs. I then work with families to apply evidence-based medicine to the individual child. This is an approach that I have developed over years of practice in various settings. What I hope you will notice most about me is my curiosity, warmth, and love for each of my patients.

Biography

I bring more than 15 years of pediatric experience to Westside Pediatrics. I am board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. My clinical background includes work as a pediatric hospitalist at Randall Children’s Hospital, where I managed complex inpatient care and taught residents and medical students, as well as several years providing primary care at a refugee medical clinic.

I earned my undergraduate degree in biology from Reed College and my medical degree from Oregon Health & Science University. I completed my residency in Pediatric Medicine at the
University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

I grew up in the Midwest, bouncing around various towns in Minnesota, Indiana, and Kentucky before finally finding my true home in Portland in 1997.  Like many who grew up in the Midwest, I am serious about my team sports—both playing and watching. Like many who came of age in Portland in the 90s/ 2000s, I am serious about my bikes, coffee, and funky backyard garde
